Shannon was referred to Job Centre Australia (JCAL) by his National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Planner as he had been funded for 12hrs open employment assistance. Shannon has a real desire to gain employment with McDonald’s and both he and his planner were aware of the business relationship JCAL and McDonald’s have.

Shannon and his family met with Anthony in our Lower Hunter offices to discuss using some of Shannon’s NDIS funding to prepare him for work at McDonald’s. Shannon commenced and completed JCAL’s One Step Closer pre-employment workshop in which 9 of the 11 participants have started or are expecting to start with McDonald’s in the Hunter, including Shannon.

The Lower Hunter region was the first in NSW to trial NDIS where the roll out began on 1st July 2013. From the 1st July 2016, NDIS will begin rolling out throughout the rest of NSW. The first stage, commencing 1st July 2016, will include the Central Coast, Hunter New England, Blue Mountains, Northern Sydney, South Western Sydney, Southern NSW and Western Sydney. For more information about the NDIS visit http://www.ndis.gov.au/
